FACE COVERED IN SHAME (an article in Vol. 1 No. 3 of The Natifz Times)
“Face covered in shame.” It’s been a while since I read or heard this phrase, which was quite common during my childhood days.
In the good old days, those good old days of late night storytelling with my great-grandparents; when ever women get caught in shameful acts of fornication or adultery, they’d cover their faces in shame; weeping profusely and remorsefully pleading for mercy.
Alas the modern days of unrepentant immorality has dawned on us! These days, rather than weep in shame, ladies put up thick defense. Young girls caught fornicating will look you straight in the eye and make amazing statements like: ‘Look here, this is none of your business. It’s strictly mine and next time; don’t pry into my private affairs.’ Some girls will even boldly tell you that they are enjoying their lives so you should take several seats backward and allow them some breathing space.
Wives caught in acts of adultery will raise their voices so high like the sharp cry of thunder and strike you with words like: ‘It’s not my fault, it’s my husband’s. He is a weak man and I’ve been badly starved. What do you expect me to do?’
My goodness! It’s always defense, upon defense, upon defense, no shame at all; not even an ounce!
Mothers, sisters and women out there, I’m not trying to betray womanhood. All I’m doing is shining the light on the terrible cankerworm eating deep into our conscience.
Fathers, brothers and every man reading this piece right now; don’t just start rejoicing, thinking you’ve successfully evaded my search light. Most of you are not saints at all so you definitely can’t be exempted. A good number of men are guilty of this very moral act hence, being the watch-dog that I am; I’ve observed, analyzed and now it’s time to spill the beans.
Some husbands caught red-handed in acts of adultery will claim they no longer find their wives attractive (I always wonder why and how really). Some others will claim they no longer enjoy the degree of satisfaction they deserve from their wives, so they resort to the external satisfaction option which is cheating. Worst still, some men will blame it on variety, stating that “Variety is the spice of life.” Ah! As much as this whole thing seems laughable, it’s not funny at all. What has variety got to do with immorality? Wish I could get a perfect answer that will melt my imperfect confusion.
Young boys of nowadays are not left out of this saga either. They’d jump from one girl to another in a quest to hold onto the “Player” title they seem to love so much. Dem go dey claim say body no be firewood; plus their bodies count will earn them additional respect from their peers, so they jump at the slightest opportunity with no iota of shame nor remorse thereafter.
One thing that really baffles me is that; Men, women, boys and girls have lost their sense of shame completely where sexual immorality is concerned. So I’m forced to ask: “SHAME, WHERE ART THOU?”
Is shame extinct already?
If Yes: Where are we heading to?
If No: What went wrong?
